World bosses 6

Server-wide fights. Everyone chips at the same health bar and rewards scale with the damage you personally dealt.

The Beast of the Colosseum

Nobody knows what they fed it in the deepest cages. Nobody dared to stop.

Nero's Escaped Tiger

The Emperor's favorite killer slipped its chains. It remembers every arena it was starved for.

Minotaur of the Catacombs

The catacomb diggers stopped digging years ago. Now you know why.

Cerberus, Hound of the Gates

Three heads, one appetite. The underworld filed no complaint about the escape.

The Iron Colossus

A bronze titan built for a triumph that never came. Something inside it still marches.

Shade of the First Gladiator

The first man to die on this sand never truly left it. Tonight he takes challengers.

Road encounters 22

Expeditions can interrupt themselves with a choice. Outcomes are weighted and deliberately not listed here - the point is deciding without knowing.

The Wounded Legionary

A legionary lay in the ditch by the milestone, opened up by bandit steel and still breathing. He begged for water and swore his cohort would pay well for his life.

๐Ÿค Bind his wounds๐Ÿ—ก Strip him of his purse๐Ÿšถ Walk on

The Stranded Merchant

A wine merchant sat cursing beside his cart, its axle snapped in a rut. His mule looked personally offended. He waved us down before we could pass.

๐Ÿ’ช Lift the cart yourself๐Ÿช™ Name your price first๐Ÿ”ง Just help him

Bones by the Fire

Four old legion veterans sat around a fire off the road, throwing tali and arguing about a siege that ended twenty years ago. They waved me over and rattled the cup.

๐ŸŽฒ Sit and play๐Ÿ‘‚ Listen to their war stories๐Ÿšถ Keep walking

The Roadside Shrine

A weathered shrine of Mars stood at the crossroads, the altar heavy with offerings - coins, wine, a rusted dagger left by some other fighting man.

๐Ÿช™ Leave an offering๐Ÿ™ Pray, offer nothing๐Ÿซณ Pocket the offerings

The Runaway

A man burst from the treeline with chains still on one wrist and hunters' horns sounding behind him. He saw the brand on my arm and stopped running. "Brother," he said. Just that.

๐Ÿคซ Point the hunters wrongโ›“ Claim the bounty๐Ÿšถ Not our business

Eyes in the Treeline

Wolves shadowed us for a mile, gray shapes sliding between the pines, patient as tax collectors. The big one finally stepped onto the road ahead.

โš” Drive them off๐Ÿง— Take to the rocks๐Ÿฅฉ Throw them our supper

The Drunken Lanista

An old lanista held court in a roadside taberna, deep in his cups, telling anyone who would listen how he trained three champions of the Colosseum. His hands still had the scars to back it up.

๐Ÿท Buy him a jug๐Ÿ‘‚ Listen from a distance๐Ÿšถ Drink elsewhere

The Swollen Ford

Spring rains had turned the ford into a brown torrent dragging whole branches past. A ferryman waited on the bank with a raft and the smile of a man who knows he is the only option.

๐ŸŠ Swim itโ›ต Pay the ferryman๐Ÿ—บ Take the long way

The Toll of the Road

Five men stepped from the rocks with drawn blades and rehearsed grins. Their leader explained, very politely, that this stretch of road has a toll and we were standing on it.

โš” The toll is steel๐Ÿ˜ค Tell them your name๐Ÿช™ Pay and pass

The Hooded Stranger

A hooded man at the crossroads offered a "genuine map to a rich man's buried strongbox", price negotiable, questions unwelcome. His boots were too good for a beggar and too muddy for a liar. Hard to say.

๐Ÿ—บ Buy the map๐Ÿซณ Lift HIS purse instead๐Ÿšถ Walk past

Smoke on the Horizon

A farmhouse burned at the edge of a field, and screaming came from inside. Neighbors stood in a helpless half-circle, all buckets and no courage.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Go in๐Ÿซณ The barn is not on fire yet๐Ÿšถ Not our fire

The Fallen Brother

A dead gladiator lay under a cypress off the road - ludus brand on his arm, wounds in the front where they belong. No ludus would leave a man like this. Someone dumped him.

โšฐ Bury him properly๐Ÿ›ก His gear serves the living๐Ÿช™ Check his purse

The Patrician's Litter

A curtained litter swayed toward us, eight bearers strong, and its guards shoved everyone into the ditch to clear the way. One planted a hand on my chest.

๐Ÿ—ฟ Stand your ground๐Ÿ™‡ Step aside๐ŸŽญ Mock the perfume cloud

The Greek Physician

A Greek physician with a traveling case of alarming instruments looked me over and declared, unprompted, that my humors were "a catastrophe in progress". He happened to sell the remedy.

๐Ÿงช Buy the tonic๐Ÿšถ Your humors are fine

The Lost Child

A small girl sat on a milestone, crying with the businesslike persistence of the very lost. Her village was "past the olive hill", which described every direction at once.

๐Ÿงญ Walk her home๐Ÿ‘‰ Point her the right way

The Rival's Scout

A man with ink-stained fingers watched my training drills from the tree line, scribbling on a wax tablet. A scout from a rival ludus, cataloguing your investment.

๐Ÿ’ช Give him a show๐ŸŽญ Feed him lies๐Ÿšถ Let him scribble

The Serpent Omen

A snake crossed the road left to right and stopped to look at us - which every soldier, priest and grandmother in the Empire agrees means SOMETHING. Opinions differ violently on what.

๐Ÿ”ฎ Read the omen๐Ÿ—ก Kill it๐Ÿšถ Walk around it

The Cold Camp

An abandoned camp sat in a hollow - tents still standing, fire pit cold, a cook pot half full. Whoever left, left fast, and not by choice.

๐Ÿ” Search it carefully๐Ÿ’ค Rest, touch nothing๐Ÿšถ Bad ground, keep moving

The Wine Convoy

A convoy of wine wagons was hiring blades for the night stretch through the hills - the drivers kept glancing at the tree line like it owed them money.

๐Ÿ›ก Take the night watch๐Ÿท One amphora won't be missed๐Ÿšถ We have our own road

A Familiar Face

In a roadside taberna, a scarred man looked up from his cup and grinned with what teeth remained. I put him in the sand two seasons ago. Apparently he tells the story better than I do.

๐Ÿบ Drink with himโš” Settle the rematch

The Priestess of Fortuna

A priestess of Fortuna traveled with two silent temple guards and an offering bowl. She looked at me the way merchants look at scales and said the goddess had "plans" for us. Plans accept donations.

๐Ÿช™ Donate to the goddess๐Ÿšถ Make your own luck

The Legion Recruiter

A legion recruiter with a quota and a squint sized me up like livestock and reached for his tablet. "The Emperor needs men of your build," he said, in the tone of a man who does not take no.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Show the ludus brand๐Ÿง  Talk your way around him๐Ÿ’จ Vanish before the tablet opens
